LEGACY ARTS ENSEMBLE (LAE) is a program of HSA Theatre that combines acting, drumming, dance and story-telling. The Ensemble/class is designed to spark an interest in various cultures from the African continent by devising performance pieces based in traditional West African dance, drumming, song, and storytelling.
To date, LAE topics have ranged from honoring the past and reclaiming cultural identity to issues of police brutality and social justice. Each participant in the program learns all of the art forms the Ensemble explores, i.e. every drummer will dance, every dancer will tell theatrical stories. This allows for a holistic and multi-disciplinary approach to artistic development.
