This class is focused on drawing from direct observation, and during this Spring term students had the chance to develop new skills while working from home. Students explored landscape drawing while working in their home environments, challenging them to consider their unique lighting conditions and viewing distances, and requiring creative compositional choices. These drawings developed and strengthened previously learned concepts in linear and atmospheric perspective. Students also completed a still life project, drawing everyday objects employing a variety of techniques built on an understanding of outline, value, contour, and mass. During this project, students also learned new approaches to composition, exploring concepts such as symmetry and depth, as well as the use of grids to organize their artwork.
