The Film and Video class teaches students the process of filmmaking: from pre-production (screenwriting, location scouting, character development), production (learning the camera, recording + filming, creating a schedule) to post-production (learning editing programs, edit, critique and watch.) We also watch films to better understand how different styles of stories are structured and translated on video.
Our Spring semester was interrupted by the pandemic, when we were each about to start filming our projects. Despite this hurdle and without access to equipment, student Najwa Jendaya created a camera-less film by remixing, using, and assembling videos found online that documented the truths and realities of the pandemic.
