Our Harlem Summer Arts Experience is dynamic and perfect for children ages 5-12 years old. The program consists of learning new concepts, exploration of artistic disciplines, field trips, and community building. Camp attendance is flexible and may be attended in consecutive sessions or as needed.

HSA Summer Arts Experience

Join us for the FOURTH annual Harlem Summer Arts Experience, a transformative six-week program from July 8 to August 18, 2024, designed for children aged 5-12. Led by experienced instructors and special guest artists, the curriculum developed by Soul Science Lab, immerses students in the vibrant history of Harlem while exploring music, dance, acting, and design. Inspired by the 50th Anniversary of Hip Hop, campers will discover the roots of West African Tradition to Hip Hop, culminating in presentations of their creative achievements. Mentoring programs, outdoor activities, and special trips enhance their experience, fostering a sense of community and a deeper connection to the arts. Enroll today to be part of this dynamic summer camp, where creativity thrives, and the spirit of Harlem comes alive. (Students will be split up by the following age groups: 5-6, 7-8, 9-10, 11-12). Summer Creative Canvas Intensive

Calling all artists! Join us this summer from August 6th to August 29th on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays for the HSA Creative Canvas Intensive! Unleash your creativity and uncover hidden talents as you dive deep into artistic exploration. Ages 11-20 are welcome to join us for Figure Drawing, Drawing from Observation, Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, Graphic Design, Web Design, and more!

The Acting Lab

Summer Dance Intensive

Join us this summer at the HSA Summer Dance Intensive! From August 5th to August 23rd, you will start a thrilling journey exploring various styles of dance. From ballet to hip-hop, our intensive offers a comprehensive curriculum designed to elevate skills and ignite passion. Led by experienced teaching artists, dancers will hone their technique, enhance their creativity, and build lasting friendships. Audition now for an unforgettable summer experience at HSA.

Summer Musical Theater Intensive

Students in this intensive will explore all of the aspects of musical theater as they prepare to put together a musical from the Broadway Jr catalog. Audition requirements: Prepared to sing, act, and dance for the first day. Each day, students should wear clothes that are nonconstricting and comfortable sneakers.

Summer Jazz Intensive

Students will explore jazz improvisation, jazz composition, ear training, and ensemble playing in this 2-week jazz intensive. There will be a culminating concert featuring the ensembles at the end of the intensive. Please use the link below to fill out the Jazz Intensive Google Form and we will send you more information about audition requirements and dates. All auditions, whether video submissions or in person, must be submitted or completed by July 21st, 2024. Once accepted students can register for the intensive. Frequently asked questions

Students, ages 12-17, interested in pursuing a career in the arts would benefit from HSA Prep, which provides accelerated arts training to prepare students for a continued education in the arts.

Ages 2-6 require no assessment for classes; simply choose the class that is the right fit for your child’s age. For dance classes and private music lessons, each student will be given an assessment by the department to determine the appropriate placement level for classes.

Yes. However, for those students who do not have access to an instrument, HSA can provide a list of stores that rent a variety of instruments.

Each semester runs for 16 weeks. Classes generally last between 30 minutes to 2 hours, and students may take as many classes as they like during our 32-week school year.

The HSA Early Childhood program offers classes for children ages 2 to 4 years old, see details and class descriptions on each department’s page. Several of the early childhood education classes require an adult caregiver to participate!
