Harlem Summer Arts Experience

Dates: July 10 – August 18, 2023

Join us for our third annual Harlem Summer Arts Experience, happening July 10 – August 18, 2023! In three 2-week sessions, children ages 4-12 will have the opportunity to sing, dance, act, and design all while immersing themselves in the history of Harlem. This year’s experience includes special guest artists, mentoring, outdoor fun and special trips, and opportunities for students to present their work after each session. Join us in bringing our community together in the arts and enroll today! (Students will be split up by the following age groups: 5-6, 7-8, 9-10, 11-12).

Session A: July 10 – July 21
Session B: July 24 – August 4
Session C: August 7 – August 18
Pricing: $1,000/session; financial aid available.

HSA Summer Dance Intensive

Dates: August 7-25, 2023

This year’s HSA Dance Summer Intensive is a ballet and modern based experience for students with at least three years of consistent training. Ballet classes will be a part of the daily curriculum. Three years of ballet training is recommended. To complement the ballet focus, the intensive will also offer contemporary, Jazz, Horton Technique, Improvisation, Street Jazz, Hip-Hop, Lindy Hop and more. In celebration of our partnership with the Radio City Rockettes, we will present weekly precision technique classes led by members of the Radio City Rockettes. The intensive will end with our Summer Blaze concert on August 25th at 5:30p. This experience is designed to grow the technique of intermediate and advanced dancers. The intensive is about love, Iife, and dance!

HSA Summer Media & Design Intensive

Dates: August 8-31, 10 AM – 4 PM every day
Ages: 11-18
 
The Visual Arts intensive will focus on building students’ core skills and the creation of portfolio-level pieces. Students will get extensive training in figure drawing and anatomy as well as drawing from observation. Work will include traditional and digital illustration.

HSA Summer Theater Intensive

Dates: August 14-September 1, 10 AM – 4 PM every day
Ages: 11-18

Week 1: Improv with Andrew Strano
Students will experience the world of play with improvisational comedy. They will adventure into the world of silliness while also creating unique and profound scenes entirely out of thin air. During this week-long intensive, they will learn the ins and outs of Improv as a craft. Modeled after Saturday Night Live, this intensive is sure to leave everyone laughing! Understanding the fundamentals of improvisation is key to building confidence in not just any young actor but any young person. Improvisation requires students to be in the moment, to be quick on their feet as well as use active listening skills to create new and fun stories. Let’s get to laughing!
 
Week 2: August Wilson Monologue with Tristien Winfree
This course provides an introduction to drama, poetry, and music, By examining the nature, structure, and key elements of storytelling by reading, analyzing, and learning monologues from a wide selection of August Wilson texts within his 10 play century cycle. This course will enhance students’ abilities to appreciate, understand, and critique literature as embodied in its major modes of expression of the human condition as well as improve their acting skills through carefully curated exercises.
 
Week 3: Commercial Audition Intensive with Olander Wilson
Booking a national commercial can be lucrative. Imagine booking just 3 commercials in a year. Wow, you could be set financially for the year. Contrary to what you believe, commercial auditioning is much more challenging than it looks. It doesn’t matter if you are just starting out or if you are looking to clean up your commercial chops. In this workshop, you’ll devour both the art of booking commercials, learn how to analyze commercial scripts, and get advice and insight on the business side of commercial acting.

Audition Details

This year students who do not train in the HSA Dance program can send 2 minute videos of themselves dancing in the forms of Ballet, Modern, or Contemporary. In the video they should also include their name, age, along with themselves standing in 1st arabesque and tendu à la seconde.
