HSA Summer Programs
Harlem Legends: Icons of the Screen, the Page, and the Stage
Our interdisciplinary curriculum weaves together dance, music, visual arts, and theater, inviting campers to draw meaningful connections between their own stories and the icons who paved the way. We ask campers to consider: How did these extraordinary individuals rise to legendary status—and how will you become a legend in your own right?
Harlem Summer Arts Experience
- 8:00AM – 5:00PM (late pickup available)
Campers will enjoy breakfast, lunch and snacks provided by Red Rabbit.
Session A runs from July 6 to July 17. Campers will focus on Harlem Legends of TV & Film, such as, but not limited to:
- Paul Robeson
- The Nicholas Brothers
- Cicely Tyson
- Ossie Davis & Ruby Dee
- Charles Gilpin
- Gregory Hines
- Alice Barker
- Angela Bassett
- Sidney Poitier
A 25% deposit is required to hold your spot
Session B runs from July 20 to July 31. Campers will spotlight Harlem Legends and visionaries of the Page, such as:
- Dr. Maya Angelou
- Langston Hughes
- Zora Neale Hurston
- Duke Ellington
- James Baldwin
- Florence Price
- Margaret Bonds
- Zelda Wynn Valdez
A 25% deposit is required to hold your spot
Session C runs from Aug 3 to Aug 14. Campers will focus on Harlem Legends and icons of the Stage, such as:
- Arthur Mitchell
- Diahann Carroll
- Ethel Waters
- Sammy Davis Jr.
- Elida Webb
- Bessie Smith
- Bill Robinson
- Perry Watkins
