Find the fastest fix.

Choose the situation that matches what you’re seeing. Most registration problems can be solved without starting over.

01 / New family

I don’t have an account yet.

Create an account first, then return to the catalogue to select classes. We highly encourage parents and guardians to register on behalf of their student so HSA receives accurate information and can communicate with your family easily.

03 / Read-only class

A class says “readonly” and I can’t select it.

This means the class requires instructor approval. Email info2@hsanyc.org for help with admission to the course.

04 / Class level

I’m not sure which class to choose.

Classes are organized by grade level. Register your child based on the grade they’re entering in the fall. If you’re choosing a dance class, use the placement guidance below.

05 / General help

I’m having a hard time registering in general.

Email info2@hsanyc.org and HSA’s Student Services team will help you sort it out.

Dance placement

Choose the right class.

Dance has the widest range of technique and training levels at HSA. Use these guidelines to find a starting point for your child.

New to dance?

Beginner-level classes are for elementary-age students, and most run on Saturdays — a strong option for a once-a-week recreational experience. Families looking for the full HSA experience are encouraged to take multiple classes across the year; that’s where students tend to see the most growth.

Registering a teenager?

HSA does not offer many beginner classes designed specifically for teens. If your teen is starting at a beginner level, they should know they may be placed in a class with younger students.

Not sure which style to start with?
Ballet

Builds alignment, flexibility, and musicality. It is the foundation for almost everything else HSA teaches and a strong first class.

Hip Hop or Tap

For students who want something more upbeat, rhythmic, and fast-paced.

Acro

One of HSA’s most popular classes; students learn the basics of tumbling and acrobatics alongside dance.

Broadway (Jazz)

Teaches the foundations of jazz technique.

Horton Technique

A form of modern dance for students ready to branch out.

Afro-Caribbean

For students interested in rhythmic dancing, syncopation, and polyrhythmic training.

College-bound dancers: HSA is a ballet-focused, college-preparatory program, so ballet is especially encouraged for students with college dance ambitions; most college dance programs require ballet training.

Choosing a training track
Recreational level

1–2 classes per week

For students who want to dance for fun at a relaxed pace.

Pre-professional training level

3–5 classes per week

Training across multiple techniques, with ballet and Horton as foundational classes. Entry requires an audition or assessment.

Still not sure where your child fits?

Assessments happen year-round, so there’s no need to wait for a specific registration window.

Are payment plans available?

Yes. HSA offers monthly payment plans. During the current late-registration window, a 50% deposit is required to complete enrollment. All plans must be paid in full by the end of each semester.
