A School of the Arts That Everyone Can Afford

Discover Our Variety of Financial Aid Programs

To apply for financial aid, parents must first register for classes.  Once that’s done, create an account with FACTS, our financial aid platform.  From there you can fill out the necessary income information, upload W2 forms, and the prior year’s tax information.

Once applications are submitted, and all required documents are received by FACTS from families, a business review will be conducted. This takes approximately 2-3 weeks to complete.

Applicants also receive an award letter through FACTS that they must sign and return electronically (to financialaid@hsanyc.org) or in person at HSA. Awards are income-based, and if an applicant is eligible for financial assistance, the applicant will receive an award amount via FACTS management for the designated year for which the financial aid should be applied. Once the signed award letter has been received, applicants are instructed to register for the classes on a payment plan.

Jacqueline and Clarence Avant Scholarship and Arts Access Fund

Arts education plays a crucial role in developing creativity, communication, and critical thinking skills, offering rarefied riches that transcend generations. For 60 years, HSA has been dedicated to youth development, serving a diverse audience, and cultivating emerging artists and their characters. Despite the proven benefits of arts education, access remains limited for many. In order to combat this disparity, HSA has partnered with Nicole Avant. This collaboration resulted in the Jacqueline and Clarence Avant Scholarship and Arts Access Fund. This fund is a significant milestone for HSA, marking the first time substantial resources have been allocated for financial aid, tuition assistance, and scholarships. The Avant Scholarship and Arts Access Fund not only supports access to arts education but also provides an invaluable opportunity to educate HSA’s Avant Artist Scholars about the profound impact of Jacqueline and Clarence Avant. Their legacy includes shaping the careers of numerous pioneering Black artists in Hollywood and beyond. Through this fund, HSA can continue expanding access to high-quality arts education, ensuring that the next generation of artists, regardless of financial background, can thrive and carry forward the rich legacy of creative excellence and community leadership.

Frequently Asked Questions

For students ages 8-17 who dream of pursuing art as a career, we offer specialized programs called HSA Prep and HSA Pre-Prep. These programs provide advanced artistic training in a supportive environment, helping young artists build the skills and confidence they need for future success in the arts.

Our experienced department directors work personally with each student to evaluate their current skills and interests. This helps us place your child in the perfect class where they’ll feel both challenged and confident as they grow their artistic abilities.

Yes. However, for those students who do not have access to an instrument, HSA can provide a list of stores that rent a variety of instruments.

Our program runs in two terms of 16 weeks each, for a total of 32 weeks of artistic exploration. Class lengths are designed with your child’s age and attention span in mind – toddler classes are a fun-filled hour, while older students enjoy immersive two-hour sessions. There is a calendar link on the contact page.

Yes! We’re excited to announce that our toddler programs are launching soon. These age-appropriate classes will introduce our youngest artists to the joy of creative expression. Stay tuned for more details!
