Overview
Harlem School of the Arts seeks a part-time Marketing & Content Manager to lead content and editorial development while supporting cross-channel marketing that drives program enrollment, event attendance, and institutional visibility. This role serves as HSA’s primary marketing writer and content lead — shaping institutional voice across email, web, and donor communications — while contributing to digital marketing, audience reporting, and event marketing support. Reporting to and working closely with the Chief Marketing Officer, the Marketing & Content Manager will work toward audience expansion while maintaining brand integrity and ensuring that organizational vision and values are successfully expressed across all channels. This role works in close coordination with the Development Associate, who provides event logistics support, raw data pulls, and on-site asset capture. The Marketing & Content Manager leads content development and reporting; the Development Associate supports execution. This is a part-time, non-exempt position at 21 hours per week (3 days), with occasional evening and weekend hours during peak event and campaign periods. The Manager title reflects the depth of editorial and content ownership this role carries — this role does not have direct reports.
Principal Duties:
- Provide digital marketing support to build engagement and awareness across external channels including email and social media
- Support the Chief Marketing Officer in developing marketing materials to promote classes, events, and public programs
- Collaborate with artistic staff to identify program marketing opportunities
- Conduct surveys to measure customer and community satisfaction and engagement
- Monitor, analyze, and provide reports on enrollment, student data, and sales trends
- Maintain Constant Contact list structure, VIP segmentation, and email scheduling; list builds to be executed by the Development Associate with sufficient lead time ahead of send
- Create documents and contribute to internal and external communications campaigns
- Provide general administrative support related for Marketing activities and meetings
- Manage additional projects as assigned
Content & Editorial
- Serve as HSA’s primary marketing writer and editor, producing copy for newsletters, web pages, donor communications, and program materials
- Maintain consistent voice and brand language across email, web, print, and social channels, in line with HSA’s brand guidelines
- Edit and proofread content drafted by other departments and contributors for tone, clarity, and brand consistency
- Support editorial planning for institutional materials, including the annual report and fundraising campaign copy
Digital Marketing
- Provide social media coverage for HSA activities including classes and events
- Create digital content — including basic photo and video editing — to promote and showcase HSA activities across social, email, and web
- Maintain digital marketing calendar
- Collaborate with the Marketing and Development teams to develop and execute email marketing campaigns
- Grow audience engagement through strategic measures
- Write and produce copy and creative assets for paid social campaigns, in coordination with the Chief Marketing Officer
- Track and report on digital audience engagement on a regular cadence, using Google Analytics (GA4) and social platform insights to inform content and marketing decisions
- Communicate calendar and content updates to the Chief Marketing Officer to support timely website updates
Event Marketing and Support
- Develop event-specific ticketing pages and templates for performances, concerts, and public programs; guest list exports and segmentation execution supported by the Development Associate
- Conduct and compile post-event surveys
- Update event marketing templates
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Marketing, Communications, English, or an arts-related field
- 5+ years of experience in marketing, communications, or editorial work, ideally within arts education, nonprofit, or related fields
- Excellent writing and editing skills, with a portfolio demonstrating clear, engaging copy for newsletters, web, or donor/fundraising communications
- Solid understanding of Social Media content creation, strategy, and analysis
- Proficiency across core social media platforms (Instagram, Facebook, TikTok, YouTube, and LinkedIn) and familiarity with social media scheduling/management tools
- Familiarity with Google Analytics (GA4) for reading and interpreting website and digital campaign performance data
- Experience using Microsoft Office and Google suite of products
- Experience with design and content creation software such as Canva, Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, or InDesign, plus facility with basic video editing tools (e.g., Adobe Premiere Rush, CapCut, or Canva Video) for short-form social and promotional content
- Strong verbal communication and cross-departmental collaboration skills
- Exceptional attention to detail
- Flexibility and adaptability to shifting priorities, with comfort managing multiple workstreams within a part-time schedule
- Background in the arts or arts education a plus
