Early Childhood

Mini Tap, Pre-Primary and Primary Ballet, and Early Childhood Hip-Hop nurture creativity, coordination, rhythm, and foundational movement skills.

ABT Student Examinations

Graded evaluations assess technical development and artistic presentation through a curriculum drawing on French, Italian, and Russian ballet schools. Examinations are encouraged for Primary A through Level 4 students enrolled for the full year.

Summer Dance Intensive

For dancers with at least two years of training, this intensive includes Pointe, Contemporary, Horton, Jazz, Lindy Hop, Hip-Hop, and a weekly Rockettes precision class, culminating in Summer Blaze.

A ten-month, high-standard classical ballet and pre-professional program for dancers ready to pursue disciplined daytime study.

Junior & Teen Ensembles

Selected Prep, Pre-Prep, and Merit students receive intensive rehearsal and performance experience at HSA and across New York City. Emerging dancers may also be invited into the apprentice track.

Frequently asked questions

What opportunities do you offer for young artists?

For students ages 8–17 who dream of pursuing the arts as a career, HSA offers HSA Prep and HSA Pre-Prep. These programs provide advanced artistic training in a supportive environment, helping young artists build the skills and confidence they need for future success.

How do you determine the right class level for my child?

Our experienced department directors work personally with each student to evaluate current skills and interests. This helps us place your child in a class where they will feel both challenged and confident as they grow.

How often should my child train?

Early Childhood students are encouraged to explore multiple styles. Level 1–2 dancers typically train two to four days each week, while Level 3–5 dancers typically train three to five days each week. The Dance team can recommend a schedule based on age, experience, and goals.

What does the academic calendar look like?

Our program runs in two terms of 16 weeks each, for a total of 32 weeks of artistic exploration. Class lengths are designed with each student’s age and attention span in mind, from shorter classes for younger students to immersive sessions for older students.

Do you offer classes for younger dancers?

Yes. Early Childhood classes serve dancers ages 4–7 and include Mini Tap, Pre-Primary and Primary Ballet, and Early Childhood Hip-Hop. Current schedules and availability appear in the class catalog above.
