Quick Fixes
I’m a new family and don’t have an account yet.
Create an account first, then come back to this page to select classes. We highly encourage parents and guardians to register on behalf of their student — this ensures the information we’re collecting is accurate and helps us communicate with you easily moving forward. Create a new account →
I’m a returning family and forgot my email or password.
Do not create a new account. Log in using the navigation bar at the top of the page. If you’re still having trouble, call us at (212) 926-4100 or email info2@hsanyc.org.
A class I want is labeled “readonly” and I can’t select it.
This means this is an advanced class requiring instructor approval. Email info2@hsanyc.org for admission to these courses.
I’m not sure which classes to register for.
Classes are organized by grade level. Register your child based on the grade they’re entering in the fall.
I’m having a hard time registering in general.

Choosing the Right Dance Class for Your Child
New to dance?
Beginner-level classes are for elementary-age students, and most run on Saturdays — a great option if you’re looking for a once-a-week, recreational experience. If your family wants the full HSA experience, we encourage taking multiple classes across the year; that’s where students tend to see the most growth.
Registering a teenager?
We don’t offer many beginner classes designed specifically for teens. If your teen is starting at a beginner level, they should know they may be placed in a class with younger students.
Not sure which style to start with?
- Ballet — builds alignment, flexibility, and musicality; the foundation for almost everything else we teach, and a great first class.
- Hip Hop or Tap — for students who want something more upbeat, rhythmic, and fast-paced.
- Acro — one of our most popular classes; students learn the basics of tumbling and acrobatics alongside dance.
- Broadway (Jazz) — teaches the foundations of jazz technique.
- Horton Technique — a form of modern dance for students ready to branch out.
- Afro-Caribbean — for students interested in rhythmic dancing, syncopation, and polyrhythmic training.
HSA is a ballet-focused, college-preparatory program, so we especially encourage ballet for students with college dance ambitions — most college dance programs require ballet training.
Choosing between Recreational and Pre-Professional tracks?
Recreational Level
1–2 classes per week, for students who want to dance for fun at a relaxed pace.
Pre-Professional Training Level
3–5 classes per week across multiple techniques, with ballet and Horton as the foundational classes. Entry requires an audition or assessment.
Still not sure where your child fits?
Reach out to schedule an assessment — assessments happen year-round, so there’s no need to wait for a specific registration window. See the Student Placement page → (link needed)
