Classes are canceled today and tomorrow (09/29/23 - 09/30/23)

HSA Music stands on the shoulders of the Harlem Renaissance and some of the greatest musical artists the world has ever known.

From Louis Armstrong to Ella Fitzgerald, we bring you music like only Harlem can. Whether laying the foundation for a beginner or polishing a more advanced musician, our expert faculty of performing professionals, offer sequential, rigorous introduction, while instilling in each student a love of Harlem and its history and music.

Proud to be officially recognized as a Steinway Select School, we offer private and group instruction in strings, woodwinds, brass, piano, guitar, percussion and voice.

We believe that the most powerful learning is sequential and all of our classes build on the class that precedes it. While honoring our founder, celebrated opera singer Dorothy Maynor, offering the long tradition of Western classical music, our faculty also offer instruction in jazz, folk and a variety of popular music. The rich history of Harlem is threaded throughout group class curricula, highlighting the great artists of the Harlem Renaissance and beyond. We encourage all students taking private lessons to participate in group, ensemble and musicianship classes. Following the interdisciplinary and cross cultural environment of the Harlem Renaissance, we invite all singers and musicians to take classes in dance, theater and art. Students invited into our college preparatory Prep and Pre-Prep Program, these other disciplines are part of the curriculum. While enhancing technique, they build community, encourage collaboration and can be the foundation of life lessons for a well rounded adult. Experience HSA Music, the living legacy of Dorothy Maynor, Harlem and the Harlem Renaissance.
